My Story

Music has always been in my blood…

With two musicians for parents, I was constantly around music. As a trumpet and guitar player, over the years I played in every kind of group out there, from a symphony orchestra, to a funk cover band, to an original pop punk trio. After graduating college, I found myself struggling to find a good balance. I was constantly tired from working a demanding job, and confused about my life trajectory. Then, one day, it clicked. I knew that I had to make a change and put myself in a position where I could prioritize my music. So, in 2013, I made the leap, leaving my full-time teaching job to pursue my main musical project, Dizzy Bats.

I started to tour the country…

solo at first, and then with the full band. I booked countless tours, embarking on these adventures on the heels of each new release. I discovered my love for travel as well as the importance of spreading a positive message across state lines. I toured to the other side of the country and back, along the West Coast, and up and down the Northeast. In 2015 alone, I played eighty shows in nearly twenty different states. I met so many wonderful and kind people all over the country, many of whom are now my very good friends. I was connecting with people and places through my music, and that was a dream come true.

As time continued on, I started to produce music videos, collaborating with talented friends of mine in both New York and Los Angeles.

By 2017, we had released two LPs, three EPs, as well as five music videos. I had collaborated with some incredibly talented people, and have learned so much from doing so. I was now completely immersed in my most creative life.

The end of 2017 brought about my first tour in Asia, playing shows in Mainland China and Taiwan.

My brother and I booked this tour ourselves, not entirely knowing what we were getting ourselves into. We played shows in Beijing and Shanghai before flying over to Taiwan to play shows in Kaohsiung and Taipei. The tour ended with a packed house in Taipei, which, to this day, is undoubtedly the best and coolest all-around show experience I’ve ever had. The trip was punctuated with an appearance on ICRT, the most well-known English-speaking radio station in Taiwan, as my brother and I were invited for an interview and performance on the popular morning show with Stevie G. As a Chinese-American, this was all a dream come true. Setting sail on a tour to Canada just a couple years prior, Dizzy Bats had officially gone international.

Outside of music, I hustled - picking up odd jobs, whether substitute teaching or tutoring. This led me to starting my own education business, FrostForward Learning.

Through running a band and taking complete control over my work schedule in an effort to head out on tour whenever I pleased, I found out about my love for entrepreneurship and small business. Being a small-business owner has given me ultimate freedom, with the ability to craft my own schedule and devote significant time to my music. To live a balanced life of educating and creating has given me immense joy, and I am forever grateful.

all this led me to where i am now - this business.

I realized at some point last year how important both music and teaching are to me, and guiding others to discover their full creative potential, felt like a calling, which ultimately led me to building this business. Since then, I’ve helped a number of students tackle their musical goals.

I hope my story inspires you to take action.

I’m not famous or financially wealthy AT ALL, and yet, I’ve toured the country extensively, played international shows in China and Canada, produced music videos in Los Angeles, been a guest on international radio as well as various podcasts, and self-released eight albums. I’ve figured out how to live my most musical life, and it started with that first album release, and continuing to take action.

I now help people to live THEIR most musical lives, whatever meaning that holds for them, and to break through any limiting beliefs that are holding them back. Thanks for reading.

Sincerely,

Connor
